Dr. Anastasios Goulos
Law Enforcement & Academic Contributions
Law Enforcement Career:
Over the course of 29 years with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Dr. Anastasios Goulos has played a pivotal role in public safety and criminal investigations. His efforts have contributed to the seizure of approximately $19 million in illicit U.S. currency and an estimated $80 million in street value of narcotics. Dr. Goulos has also been directly involved in the apprehension of violent offenders who posed immediate threats to the community.


Academic Leadership & Teaching:
In addition to his distinguished law enforcement career, Dr. Goulos has served in higher education for 14 years. He is currently an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Criminal & Social Justice at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. His academic expertise spans mentoring, academic advising, criminal justice research, case study development, and instruction at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Goulos integrates practical policing experience with theoretical frameworks to address evolving trends in criminal justice and community reform.
Research & Future Goals:
Now entering his third year at the University of St. Francis, Dr. Goulos is actively researching restorative justice and domestic violence victimization rates, which he is guest speaker at Yale University's Annual Bouchet Conference on Diversity & Graduate Education. His goal is to develop this research into an undergraduate textbook on policing, designed to support a diverse population of domestic violence survivors and students in criminal justice education.


Recognition & Impact:
Dr. Goulos has made strategic contributions to both law enforcement and academia. His commitment to student success was recognized in 2025 when he was awarded Advisor of the Year by Alpha Phi Sigma – the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. He continues to advocate for experiential learning and the integration of theory and practice to enhance community safety and justice reform through his position as editor in the ACJS - Police Section.

Dr. Goulos is dedicated to creating platforms for emerging and established policing scholars and practitioners to share insights and research. His work reflects a deep understanding of the criminal justice system and a commitment to shaping its future through education, mentorship, and service.
